Collector’s Pied à Terre

This apartment is a New York pied à terre for a couple who have an important collection of aboriginal art, which I needed to study and research to design the space.

My goal was to create an interior that worked harmoniously with the art and highlight the collection, so the décor needed to almost recede a little. The furniture was custom designed for the apartment, mixing contemporary pieces with the period barrel and occasional chairs.

The wall coverings in the foyer have an almost tribal pattern to reflect the art, and the custom carpets were designed to echo this pattern, creating a frame for the art. In the same way, the Art Nouveau mantle is highly sculpted, not unlike the painting above it.
